2008 Working Parties

During April volunteers have been working on various areas of the Town to get ready for unannounced spring judging by the Britain in Bloom judges; this could be any time up to May 4th. Although planting flowers plays a big part of our work you will see volunteers out litter picking removing graffiti, clearing weeds as well as giving horticultural advise and support to our local youth groups, schools, churches and leisure Centre.

This spring we have planted more trees along the B4040 Swindon Rd and built two raised beds which have been planted with perennials and grasses; two groups of  trees have been planted by local residents, volunteers and town council grounds men by the picnic tables on Fairview Fields. Cricklade Bloomers have also spent many hours clearing and re-building the junior school wildlife garden, this is a valuable resource for the school and one which we hope your children/grandchildren will learn to enjoy and care for.

Sponsor a planter

The response to our Sponsor a planter campaign last year was a great success; you will see sponsor signs on many of the planters around the Town, but there are some that still need a sponsor. If you would like provide sponsorship and have your business or groups name on one of our planters please give Bob Jones a call 01793 750773.   Mo re sponsors are still needed for planters at St Mary’s; St Sampson’s Junior School and The Town Hall.

Groups of residents join forces with Cricklade in Bloom.

Six resident groups in Cricklade have formed community action groups to improve their local environment and have entered the South West in Bloom Neighbourhood Award Scheme. These are non competitive awards designed to give support and recognition to community action groups across the south West. Last year five groups entered and received awards ranging from merit to outstanding; these groups have entered again this year and are working even harder to achieve a higher level award. If you want to improve the area were you live or work and would like to know more about the Neighbourhood Award Scheme please get in touch with Anita Barratt 01793 751403

Working Parties in May

During May we need your help to empty and plant up all the borders and flower tubs; this is a huge task and will be done over two weekends.

Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th May, Friday 30th, Saturday 31st & Sunday 1st June. Meet at the Town Hall car park 9.30am

We need volunteers to

Take spring plants out of the tubs/borders and pot them up for use again next year.

Plant new summer bedding plants in borders and large planters.

Take down all the half baskets and long planters, and re-plant with summer bedding.

Help put half baskets and troughs back in place.

Water borders.

You don’t need to be a gardener to join the team of volunteers, just turn up and give it a try, make new friends, and learn a new skill.
