News and Update

Thank you to everyone who put in so much time to making the Fritillary Tea Rooms such a great success; a total of £1,565 was raised from teas, Fritillary plant sales, and donations for Bug Boxes. This is more than double the amount raised last year.

The Bug Boxes were a big favourite with all ages; made from recycled tree guards from the millennium wood and garden canes. All the Monday night cubs made a bug box with the help of Peter and learnt about the insects that would over winter in them.

On the 15th April we had a litter picking morning, even the Court Leet Scavenger and Town Crier turned out to keep the Town streets litter free. 20 large bags of rubbish were collected in 1 hour.

Post Cards featuring Cricklade in Bloom have been produced by John Barratt and are on sale in most of Cricklade retailers, 35p each. All profits will go to Cricklade Bloomers to buy autumn plants for the Town.

Youth Groups; The scouts have been busy creating their tracker garden at the Thames Hall, and the church youth groups have planted two beds in St Sampson’s church yard. Both groups have taken on the responsibility of caring for these gardens themselves. Cricklade Cubs also had an evening clearing up the area behind Abingdon Court Farm; we hope one day this will be part of a wild life garden.

Keeping the grass verges trimmed; we now have the use of a grass manager to keep some of the areas that are overgrown under control. I am sure you have noticed how much better the big roundabout and entrance to the Town is looking.

New planters; these should be arriving in the next two weeks; plants and compost arriving around 18st May.

There will be lots of nice easy planting jobs during the later half of May and beginning of June; but we also need people who can dig holes for the basket tree support anchors and for the new entrance banner poles. If you can help call Anita 01793 751403.

Sponsorship: We have received generous sponsorship of £175 from Cricklade W.I. for one of the Town Hall wall planters.
