2004/2005 Cricklade Bloomers Community Partnerships

Being a ‘Bloomer’ involves far more than planting floral displays. I don’t think any of the existing committee could anticipate just how community involved the task ahead was going to be.

2004/2005 has been an exciting year we have found ourselves linking with many other organisations and local groups.  We would like to link with many more, and I am sure as we grow this will be a natural progression.

Listed are some of the community groups we have had contact with.

Cricklade Brownies

A new Brownies pack was formed earlier in 2005, the leader wishes the brownies to become involved in community projects in the Town. The Brownies will be creating a garden at the back of Abingdon court lane close to the River Thames. The garden will give the Brownies the opportunity to learn about gardening. Cricklade Bloomers will be on hand to give advice and help with badge work.

Cricklade Welcome Club

In January 2005 Cricklade Bloomers gave a presentation to the Welcome Club (over 60’s). The members all enjoyed the presentation, many of them are no longer able to get out to see some of the more distant areas of the town, but appreciated the efforts of Cricklade Bloomers.

Cricklade Town Festival & Cancer Research UK

We joined forces with the Town Festival and Cancer research UK during the festival two weeks to have the Open Gardens Day. An extremely successful day for all which we shall repeat in 2006.

The Swindon and Cricklade Railway

After building the End of the Line Garden we approached Swindon and Cricklade Railway, to see if they could provide a piece of railway memorabilia to be used as a sculpture behind the garden. The team are searching for just the right piece.

The Jubilee Gardens Project

The project aims to help through horticultural training for adults with learning difficulties. The project contacted Cricklade Bloomers to see if they could have a stall in the High Street during the Open Gardens day to sell their plants. We have since arranged for the Jubilee Gardens Project to grow our requirements for our bedding schemes, thus supporting the project.

The Cricklade Business Association

Chairman of Cricklade Bloomers Gave a presentation to the members of the association in October 2004. It was an opportunity to show the local businesses how The Britain in Bloom campaign can help the Town by creating a cared for environment that will bring trade into the town. As a result the business association have donated £400 towards the ‘ Fair View Garden ’ project due to be completed in autumn 2005.
